Dr Lukoye Atwoli is a Mental Health Specialist (Consultant Psychiatrist) currently working at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. He is also a Lecturer at the Moi University School of Medicine, department of Mental Health, where he is involved in teaching medical students and conducting research apart from continuing to provide clinical care at the hospital.
He is the Secretary of the Kenya Psychiatric Association, and he is in charge of ICT activities of the Association. He participated in designing the website for the Association, and regularly updates it. He also publishes the online Newsletter for the Association.
He is the immediate Past President of the Eastern Africa Young Psychiatrists and Trainees' Association (EAYPT), and is the current Kenya Country Representative on the World Psychiatric Association's Early Career Psychiatrists' Council.
Dr Atwoli is the past Secretary of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA) Eldoret Division, and has served as a member of the KMA National Governing Council (2008-2009).
Apart from his professional and academic activities, Dr Atwoli is also a columnist with the Nation Newspapers, where he writes a Sunday Column reviewing weekly activities. His contributions are topical and run the entire gamut of an ordinary Kenyan's experiences. His thrust in all his writing is that change is possible, and it all starts with an individual. The aim of the articles is to stimulate debate, challenge stereoptypes and assumptions and invite people to examine alternative viewpoints in everyday life. Dr Atwoli has also published short stories in the Nation newspaper and elsewhere, and has won several competitions on the Storymoja blog.
